Hi all, thank you for checking this website.
This article compares the value of fast 1,000 and slow 3,900.
At East 1, I had 1,000 Tenpai hand and got chance to upgrade this to Honitsu. What to discard ?
I aimed for Honitsu and discarded 1m. Soon after that, got Tenpai again.
Soon after that player across Riichi-ed, and I dealt in.
Only 5 Suji was dead, and I believe this is easy push. But the question is whether my decision to go for Honitsu was right.
Now I think I shoud’ve fixed +1,000, and shouldn’t have given opponents opportunity to chase me. Fast cheap hand looks meaningless especially in flat situation, but at least it is good defensive measure: protecting us from possible point losing.
And as some of you may know, 1,000 points at East 1 has large effect on round EV. According to the statistical analysis, if you win 1,000 at East 1 your average position will be 2.41. 0.09 is huge number in average position.
If my hand was 2,000 and went for 8,000, that choice would be justified because +6,000 is enough to give up the speed.
Hope this article will be of some help to you !
