Mahjong Strategy: choosing the wait with 7 pairs / Jigoku-Machi

Mahjong Strategy

Hi all, thank you for checking this website !

This article is on choosing the wait when you have Chiitoitsu; 7 pairs hand.

I was 1st at East 2, and got Tenpai like below. What to discard and Riichi ?

I think this is ideal situation for Jigoku-Machi: waiting the last piece of an honor tile. Because 1. I may got 1st Tenpai (this wait won’t fit to chasing Riichi), 2. My hand is 3,200 and get great additional value when Riichi, 3. 23 tiles left in the wall and there is high enough possibility: at least 23/23+14(# of tiles at wan pai)=62% that someone will draw North wind and opponents may hold North wind in their hand as safety tile. So I think it is much better to wait for North wind than 2m: Dora, here.

When someone draw North wind, it is very difficult to keep it.

And you can see destructive aspect of Chiitoitsu here. 7/34:once in a 5 times we got 2 Uradora.

Thanks to Uradora, I got huge lead at East 2, but this game was a kind of slugfest like below.

2 of 18,000 hand, 2 of 12,000 hand, 2 of 11,600 hand etc… and eventually I got 4th ! If interested please see the link below and teach me if there was any bad choice.
